A perfect day-trip for travellers with only one free day in Bishkek. Forty-five minutes south of the capital the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range rises like a granite wall straight from the Chuy Valley floor — alpine meadows, juniper forests, glacier-fed streams and 4 000 m summits, all inside the protected Ala-Archa National Park. After a short trek to the lower Ak-Sai glacier viewpoint we drive to Golubiyny ("Dove") Waterfall — a pencil-thin cascade tucked into a rocky side-canyon, a 30-minute walk from the road. Lunch is served in a hillside yurt camp at Chunkurchak with panoramic views of the valley, before the return drive to Bishkek. Suitable for any fitness level: the walking is optional and can be shortened on request.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Bishkek → Ala-Archa → Golubiyny Waterfall → Chunkurchak → Bishkek
09:00 — Pickup from your hotel in central Bishkek.
09:45 — Arrive at Ala-Archa National Park (35 km). Pay the entrance fee and start the walk to the Ak-Sai glacier viewpoint — a moderate uphill trail through juniper forest, around 2–3 hours round-trip. Shorter alternatives are available (river terraces, 30-minute loop).
12:30 — Drive to Golubiyny ("Dove") Waterfall (~40 km, returning partly through Bishkek outskirts). A short 30-minute walk from the road leads to the cascade, hidden in a rocky side-canyon. Great photo stop.
14:30 — Transfer east to Chunkurchak yurt camp (30 km) along the ridge road with sweeping views of the Chuy Valley. Kyrgyz lunch (plov / lagman / manti) served in a yurt.
16:30 — Return drive to Bishkek (50 km). Drop-off at your hotel by 18:00.
